LEO HISTORY—EAGLE REPLACES LION ON OKLAHOMA CITY POLICE STAR—
[Photo of Oklahoma City Police badge #221 with the name F.S. Boyd engraved on a scroll at the top.]—Here’s the new police star.—One hundred and fifty of the regular stars and 150 of the special stars have been ordered. They will arrive within the next week or so.—When they arrive the stars issued under the previous administration will be void, Mayor Cargill said. Special commissions are being issued sparingly.—The design of the new star is a wreath-backed star surmounted by an eagle. The Walton police stars were topped with a lion.
This is the beginning of the eagle, wreath and star badge that lasted until 1929.

POLICE MAY GET BADGES—New badges for the police department are being sought by S.G. Brink, city purchasing agent. Several types of badges are now in use, and it is desired to adopt a standard badge, Brink said Monday, when he prepared instructions for prospective bidders.
[The badges had not been approved or issued by at least March 14, 1928, according to newspaper reports.]

POLICE RESERVE TO NUMBER 300—To be prepared for any emergency which may arise, the Oklahoma City police reserve, now numbering 150 men, will be increased to 300 men within the next few days and all patrolmen, with the exception of traffic officers, will work in plain clothes, according to an announcement by Mayor Overholser yesterday.—The mayor is the commander in chief of the police reserves which has as its members the majority of the leading businessmen of the city. At present there are ten companies with a captain in command of each.—The companies number fifteen men but the mayor has decided to double the strength of each unit. None of the regular patrolmen of the city is a member of the reserve. All members of the reserve come when called without compensation. The police reserve would only be called out for emergencies like riots.
[The same week, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s office created a reserve force of deputies, two companies of fifty men each.]
